Another season, another year of me writing about the NWSL! The season is kicking off and as usual, I’m updating this post to tell you all the latest of who’s out and gay on each team. A.
The team behind The Offseason knew exactly what they were doing when they dropped a clip of their upcoming docuseries teasing revelations about romantic relationships between soccer players. The clip spread like wildfire through TikTok and group chats all over this spinning planet. Nikki Stanton wondered if there was any team without a dating couple on it.
The NWSL has a huge number of publicly out gay, lesbian and bi players, representing virtually every team in the league.
Like, really queer. Within the US National Team alone, there are four openly out players, including World Cup superstar Megan Rapinoe and the adorably engaged Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris. The NWSL is fantastically even gayer, with players like Joanna Loman who was one half of the first professional athlete teammate engagements with former finance, Lianne Sanderson, during their time on the Washington Spirit.

The National Women's Soccer League is about to start a new season, with 14 teams from across the country and many of the world's best players competing for the championship cup starting this weekend. Last year, Orlando Pride, with stars Marta and Barbra Banda, won both the NWSL Shield for best regular season record, and the championship, leaving many to wonder if they'll repeat again this year.

We saw some of the most incredible feats of athleticism… one goal after another reminding us why they call this the beautiful game. We got to watch legends of the game pass the torch to a whole new generation of ballers, many of them queer.
